Satchmo got’em 1964
Just educating my self on American music history and the cultures that created a LONG line of what defines me today. Well, I came across an interesting little fact and bit of important history.
In 1964 the song “Hello Dolly” was recorded by Louis Armstrong and his current band. That year the Billboard top 100 was DOMINATED by the Beatles as they had just come over form the UK - just smashin’ the pop culture with their Rock. I thought it interesting that for some weeks the number 1 song on the top 100 was “Hello Dolly”, apparently no Jazz song has ever reached that type of popularity again, I could be wrong. It was said, that when originally recording that song, Satchmo HATED it! The man was a professional I guess, haha.
Nothing wrong with the Beatles, times were changing in the 60’s alot of stuff happened to music - just dope to see Jazz beat out POP music for once (in the eye of the gen. public).
